Slim last blog for of mice and men

My favorite character in the book is Slim. Slim is a well respected man that understands almost all things and is someone that everyone can talk to. I feel that Slim has a sort of vibe that come off of him that makes everyone respect him and feel that they can tell him anything and not have to worry if he is going to tell someone or if he is going to judge them on how they feel about something or their opinion. Slim and George kind of identify with each other in the story they both sort of look out for people and understand things that the other men and farm hands do not understand. Like at the end of the story when George has to shoot Lennie and all of the men run up and see him dead with George sitting there and ask what happened Slim just says you had to George you had to and doesn’t judge him or try to find out every little detail he understands what has happened and accepts it he also seems to have understood that George had the dream that he had just for the benefit of Lennie not him self he doesn’t really want the dream and now that Lennie is gone he can do what he wants so Slim offers to buy him a drink.

Euthanasia

Euthanasia noun the painless killing of a patient suffering from an incurable and painful disease or in an irreversible coma. The practice is illegal in most countries. I feel that the killing of a person who is suffering or is dying any way is not a bad thing. If a person knows what they are asking and is in the proper state of mind when they ask for it to be done then no one should be able to stop them. A persons life belongs to them and them alone. If I was sitting on a battle field with no legs and no arms I would ask a comrade to kill me or I would kill my self. Think about it there are not many people who would want to suffer through a long period of pain knowing that they are going to die any way only to sit in a hospital and suffer. It might be a different story if the person was old too. I feel that people that are old and have nothing to live for anymore and want to die so they don’t have to sit at home alone and be sad and suffer through any illness that they might have should be allowed to kill them selves or be killed if they ask for it.

why dreams sometimes fail

Dreams a series of thoughts, images, and sensations occurring in a person's mindduring sleep. Dreams are an awesome thing to have everyone has their own dreams but they do not always come true. I feel that dreams might not always come true because some times people do not want it enough or they are not determined to reach their goal of said dream. The dreams that people have are a special thing everyone has dreams and everyone wants something but sometimes they do not come true. Dreams get crushed and do not come true some times because either people tell you that your dreams are crazy and that they will never be true and then  eventually people give up. You can only have a dream so long before you have to let it go if it does not come true but you will always be able to come up with a new dream. In the book the dream of every single one of the ranch hands is to have their own plot of land that they can call their own that no one can tell them what to do on and they do not have to ask permission to do anything. The dream of Lennie and George is to buy their own ranch that many have but their dream is actually with in reach it comes into reach when another ranch hand named Candy tells them that he has three hundred dollars and that he would be willing to help them buy the ranch as long as he could live there with them. He is willing to do this because he is old and knows that he does not have a lot of time left and wants a place to call home when he dies he even says he will make a will leaving a ranch to Lennie and George.

a place where you belong

For people to feel whole in a sense of the word they need a place where they feel like they belong a place that they can call their own just because they are accepted there no matter what. It is very important for people to feel that. With out a place that you feel like you belong I think that people are sort of missing a part of their life and who they are. In the book that is what Lennie and George are striving for all they want is a place where they can be and no one can tell them what to do, they do not have to ask for permission to do any thing and they can live as freely as they want. No one can make them leave their own land. In the story they spread their dream and it actually becomes reachable when another ranch hand named Candy tells them that he would like to live that dream with them and that he has three hundred dollars that he is willing to put in so that they can get the ranch. This amount of money finally makes their dream possible they keep spreading their dream to other people on the ranch like a black stable boy named Crooks says that he would work for them for free if he could just stay with them on their ranch.

what is a friend why do we have friends

A friend is a person that is going to be with you no matter what. They know what you need to hear and they know what you want to hear. They will tell you what you need the most but they will also tell you the truth. I feel that everyone needs friends but some times people just need to be alone. People have friends for moral and physical support. Friends are supposed to be there with you through thick and thin no matter what. Friends are what all people need to survive in the world with out them people just simply can not function properly you need someone there to encourage you and pick you up and put you back on your feet when you fall down. They are supposed to be the ones that will tell you that you look great when you look like crap but they mean it just because they care about you and what you look like does not matter to them, they are supposed to be the ones that will lend you a hand when you need it the most. They are also the people that you go out with on a saturday night just so they can help you forget about your long stressful crappy week so you can go back and do it all again the next week just so they can take you out again.

anticipation the use of the N word

The use of the 'N' word in this book will be very prominent I feel. The book is set in the 1920's during the great depression where racism is still strong and blacks were not considered to be equals. I am not sure whether I feel if the N word is more offensive than other racial slurs. They basically all mean the same thing but the N word was not originally a racial slur. It was a word used to describe laziness. I feel that it is still offensive and should not be said but I do not believe that it is more offensive. The use of the word now and the use of the word back then were very different. Back then the word was simply the way that you were supposed to refer to african americans it was in a sense meant to be racist but no one knew better that is what they knew and you could not tell the other wise. However the use of the word today is solely to be racist and offensive. Now there is no excuse for using the word towards anyone for any reason. I am not saying that there was an excuse back then but people simply did not know any better that is what they knew.

of mice and men chapter 1-2

These chapters were very informative. they told a lot about the characters in the book and they introduced many new ones. the beginning of chapter one shows us what Lennie and George are like as people and it also tells us what they are like as one. All of the characters in the book find it odd that two people travel together. No one travels together during this time period. But the two men have formed a special bond they have known each other for a long time and George has accepted that he is going to have to take care of Lennie for the rest of their lives. George complains about it all of the time but we can all tell that he really likes the company and doesnt mind taking care of Lennie.
